Vermeer Beijing Manufacturing realises 25 percent savings with new converged communication solution using Cisco technology implemented by Dimension Data

When Vermeer Beijing Manufacturing (VBM) decided to find tech support for its business expansion plans, it turned to Dimension Data.

Dimension Data, that helps clients plan, build, support, manage, improve and innovate their ICT infrastructures, helped VBM with a new converged communications solution for its newly relocated office and plant facilities in Beijing, China.

VBM is a leading specialist manufacturer of horizontal directional drills for use in agriculture and construction industries.

According to a statement by Dimension Data, the IP-based solution that it implemented for VBM enables the company's sales, marketing and production teams to collaborate effectively despite being 50km apart.

The new infrastructure will provide a cost-effective communication platform to VBM employees and partners, resulting in savings of up to 25 percent when the company starts the process of bidding for new business, said a Dimension Data spokesperson.

VBM's new converged communications solution is built almost entirely on Cisco technology. Dimension Data said that the solution it implemented uses Cisco 2811 integrated services routers and enhanced security is provided by the Cisco ASA5505 adaptive security appliance. Also, Cisco Aironet 1142N 802.11n series access points provide secure wireless access throughout the office and factory premises.

"Timely, effective communication is vital to our business - it's the pillar on which professional relationships are built," said Jack Shen, network manager, Vermeer Beijing Company. "In competitive markets like China, we need to ensure that our solutions are not only built to the specifications of our customers but also that we conduct our business in a secure, timely and cost-effective manner. It is also important that we are able to respond immediately to changing customer requirements. Having an IP-based solution ensures that we are able to communicate these changes dynamically."
